Verify & demonstrate

The project aims to verify and demonstrate Acosense products for different applications. The project has also included the development of an Ex-certified version of Acosense products, which was finished in November 2019.

There are fluids in the process industry that are difficult or sometimes even impossible to analyse online which leads to unoptimized process stages. Often large amounts of energy and chemicals are wasted and the amount of produced product as wells as the quality of it can also be affected. This is due to that variations and disturbances that occur are not detected in time or even possible to detect with existing technology for process analysis and surveillance. With an easy to use system for analysis, follow up and optimization more processes could become more efficient and large savings could be made. For instance, for a larger pulp and paper mill the amount of saved energy could add up to GWh per year and substantial savings for chemicals as well as increased production. 

With help from the Swedish Energy Agency, Holmen Iggesund, Fraunhofer Chalmers Center, Rise Bioeconomy and Chalmers University of Technology, Acosense have been working for accelerating and introducing new solutions for a better and smarter process analysis and surveillance. The goal is to contribute to energy and cost savings, decreased environmental impact of the global process industry, increased knowledge of processes and increased revenue.

The project have included development of a new way of conducting process analysis with the use of AI to describe the process to save energy in different process stages and to complete other types of measurements as well as further develop the method active acoustic spectroscopy for new applications like coating colour together with Holmen Iggesund, one of the world’s most advanced, fully integrated pulp and cardboard factories and to analyse nano cellulose together with Rise Bioeconomy – an exciting new material that can be used as a reinforcing agent in paper, a thickening agent in cosmetics and food, wound healing or even to make paper that conducts energy.

Acosense optimises the processing industry by literalilly listening to it. By applying Active Acoustic Spectroscopy a new level of understanding can be reached. Not only fluid properties can be analysed but entire process sections can be understood and superviced.
